It has been changed into a micro-society at our school, where classes become communities, years become cities and the entire school is a global children village. Every single student at our school can choose their favorite job and the most suitable working position.
Citizens of this tiny global village can choose a working position based on interesting or specialty. They need to do the process of applying for a job as same as in the real world – writing a resume, hand in an application form, have a job interview and get the work. Then they can earn Qingying money, it is a special currency issued by the school, which plays a role of central bank in this micro-society. Meanwhile, in this society, the autonomous committee rules everything, and members of this committee are selected by the students themselves. Citizens can be chosen as a committee member by self-recommendation, community campaign, road show or public presentation, and exploration, cooperation, action, and sharing experiences are the forms how they provide services to other students.
We have serval institutions in the school. For example, everyone can donate to the “TongXin” foundation in order to raise capital to build up a small library for Xinan primary school. Citizens of global village can pawn their handcraft to the “doula” pawn shop when they need Qingying money, and the pawn shop charges a certain percentage of the price. Despite they need to give the money back to pawn shop during a certain period to get their handcraft back. Furthermore, students also can auction their belongings after the registration process at “regimen” auction ship. And the sunflower insurance company provides insurance for all the club or company members. Village inhabitants can also buy an insurance for their handcraft while they considering it is necessary. Students also have opportunities to trade in the “guluniu” stock market, this is one of the most popular investment methods. Students can practice the ability to do marketing research, purchasing, and sailing, financial accounting acknowledge and skills when running the “CK” supermarket.
The most critical organization in the society is the Aflatoun Bank. It provides capital—as known as the Qingying money—when students depositing, applying for a loan or exchanging. The Aflatoun post office contributes to the communication process in school. And the Aflatoun airport provides different situations to learn the different culture, boarding process, security rules, and airport etiquette. There are also two different workshops for boys and girls learn about how to make a handmaking staff, which can be sold at the market.
After all, the Qingying school has been organized as a micro-society where students could practicing self-management, interactive trading and eventually every student will find their strengths.
